Fuse FM’s Groove Street @ XLR

Back in February, Fuse FM took to Withington’s infamous XLR basement for our first club night of 2024: Groove Street. It was a house and disco night to remember, with an exceptional amount of people keeping the party going considering it was a Monday night!

Electronic DJ/producer Sun Sails kicked off the night, treating the first arrivals through the door to a carefully selected mix of some more downtempo grooves before raising the temperature and setting the stage for all that was to come.

William Denton, of DJ collective and events group Expedition then took the reigns, getting the place bouncing with his unique house blends and high energy sounds, before Jharv (one third of The Graveyard Shift on Fuse FM) took over the decks to blow everyone away with his brilliant house and disco selections, permeated with singalongs and classics. During this stage of the night I recall someone on the dancefloor clearly loving the music so much that he reached over the decks, taking it into his own hands to wheel up the tune…

Seasoned student DJ Nadz then rounded off the night, keeping the intensity going all the while exhibiting her excellent knack for mixing. As the night drew to a close, whispers of “afters? afters?” could be heard around me. Alas, it was a Monday and I had a dissertation to write, so I could not even entertain the idea of keeping the party going in someone’s living room with a JBL speaker and some DDJ-400 decks. I’d like to think someone did, though…

Fuse FM will be back on the dancefloor soon enough, perhaps on a Thursday night, or, heaven knows, a Friday or Saturday. In the meantime, check out the above video by the lovely people over at Fuse TV who documented some of the night.
